This vista into the Great Gulf Wilderness is arguably the most dramatic view in all of the mountains of NH. The northern Presidential Range fans out before you with the high peaks of Mounts Clay, Jefferson, Adams and Madison. I had especially beautiful light to enjoy the view, though winds and forty degree temperatures made it feel much colder. To reach this perch at sunrise, a 3.3 mile night hike is required rising 2700 ft., much of it exposed to the weather. Since weather is so variable in this area, a pleasant start does not guarantee a clear view at sunrise. I considered fortunate to have a view and great light. I stitched 2 horizontal images to include the beautiful clouds as well as the foreground grasses and lichen covered rocks.
