Ash Cave in the Winter

This is Ash Cave, located in Hocking Hills State Park. It’s the largest recess cave in the park, as well as the largest east of the Mississippi River. The site is photogenic year round, and this remains true in the winter. After a prolonged period of below-freezing temperatures, this column of ice begins to form. When I arrived at the cave on this visit, the clouds began to clear and the morning sun finally poked out to strike the forest surrounding the site. The perfect scene was made even better with the other hikers helping to give some scale.
