Description
Long Crested Eagles are common throughout East Africa, including the Serengeti National Park, where I took this picture. Their shaggy crest feathers are held erect, giving them an unmistakable profile. You can tell this is a female by her brown leggings (males have much whiter leggings). Even though common, they can be a challenge to photograph. They like perching in trees silhouetted against the sky with the sun at their back. But the midday light was in the perfect direction for this image.
I took the picture with a Canon EOS R6 with an EF200-400mm f/4L IS 1.4X lens. The exposure settings were 1/1250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 125, 560 mm, hand-held. Taken November 4, 2022.
