Azalea Sunset

Park at the rest area or the PCT trailhead just west of the rest area. Hike approximately 1 1/2 miles south. Take side trail up through the rocks then 3/4 mile south to the lake. Side trail not marked, best to use GPS or a trail guide.

I was parked at the Donner Pass EB rest area on I-80 doing my 34 hour reset. On my second evening there I hiked down the PCT a couple of miles to a side trail that led to the beautiful and isolated Azalea Lake. I had hoped to catch the direct sunset but the trees and mountains were too tall. Instead I turned 90 degrees to the south and captured a sky the color of the flower the lake was named after.
