Description

Pewits Nest located just outside of Baraboo, Wisconsin is a deep gorge that was formed during the retreat of the last glacier. Skillet Creek is the source of the water which cuts through the narrow canyon of Cambrian sandstone. In the summer the canyon receives shade for most of the day and is considered a popular site for recreational swimming and a place to escape from the heat. In the Fall the area becomes a photographic wonder with the bright orange and red leaves that adorn the sandstone banks and waters. I took this image in July and arrived to Pewits Nest at 6:00 am to beat the traffic and get a clean shot of the falls without swimmers. There is a nice spot on the end of the gorge where you can look back up the canyon and capture all of the falls. ISO 100, f16, 25 sec
