I happened to catch a show on TV about the history of the animation studio Pixar and how they got their start. They talked about in their research for making the movie A Bug’s Life the put tiny cameras on a pencil and ran it around on ground level so they could see a bug’s view of the world. What they discovered is that at ground level all the plants and flowers were translucent. I saw this story right before I went out to take wild flower pictures so I decided I was going to try for more low level and translucent pictures of the flowers. The first flower I came along on my trip was a purple Fireweed that happened to be catching some of the early morning sun coming through the flower. I set-up the tripod and took a few pictures when a bee happened to fly right to the flower I was taking pictures of. I was not only able to capture the translucence of the flower but also of the wings of the bee. This image was taken on Rustler Gulch Trail area located near Crested Butte, Colorado.
