I had been looking for a unique shot of bighorn rams, one of my favorite animals to photograph, during the rut. Typically bighorn sheep only do a lot of eating and sleeping but during the rut season, which runs from November to December, the sheep step up their activity level. Dominant males will fight each other for mating rights. Females will play hard to get. And the subadult males will try everything else to get the girls, such as lip curls and low neck stretches. But it is rare to see bighorn sheep run. I took advantage of the moment by catching a pan of this large male running across the mountainside.
