I had been hoping to get a glimpse of any wildlife while in Kings Canyon last April but up to this point, none. A fast-moving afternoon thunderstorm with pea-sized hale moved through the area and just as quickly as the storm moved in, the sky cleared and the sun once again came out. We had heard about a black mama bear and her cubs that had been seen 15-20 minutes down the road from our lodge so we hopped in our car and set out to find those bears. Much to our surprise, we found them with the cubs having fun climbing trees and the mama busy eating grass. There she was standing right alongside the road and not the least bit interested in our arrival. What a wonderful moment!
