My local wilderness is the mountains and desert of Northern New Mexico. This picture was taken in one of my favorite spots, "Angostura" (Spanish for "narrows"), a remote slot canyon high in the mountains with unique geology and beautiful waterfalls. Since there's no other path, the hike requires walking on the falls and it is steep, slippery and wet but always worth it. The falls are very therapeutic; I've never seen anyone else around. This is the best time of year to visit because the trail is too dangerous in the winter during the ice and in the spring/summer when snowmelt/monsoons flood the canyon.
