Description: A late fall drive into the Uinta Mountains found me stopping at one of my favorite spots, Christmas Meadows. The Stillwater Fork of the Bear River runs through this area and if the late afternoon breezes slow, you’re treated to a reflection of the Uinta Mountains with the 12,718-foot Ostler Peak looming in the background. As light and shadow moved across the mountains and the valley floor, later afternoon clouds floated across the sky and the air finally stilled. The long shadows on the valley floor deepened the rusty red color of the reeds and the last rays of light highlighted the passing clouds, the tips of the golden grasses and the snow-covered peaks that are reflected in the river.
