5 Favorite Features Of Canon’s EOS R System

Lens Control Ring

The Control Ring is near the front of Canon EOS RF lenses. In this image of the Canon RF 28-70mm F2 L USM, it’s just behind the red ring. (The red ring signifies this is an L-series, premium Canon lens).

Canon RF mount lenses, designed specifically for use with the EOS R system, incorporate a new Control Ring at the front of the lens barrel. This ring can be customized to adjust a variety of settings such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation. This allows you to quickly and intuitively change your desired setting without taking your eye from the viewfinder.

Since I prefer shooting in Fv mode and using the Main Dial near the shutter release to make basic exposure settings, I customized the lens Control Ring to adjust exposure compensation. This let me make fast corrections to the overall exposure on the fly, while composing. It was awesome when I wanted to capture a few frames from a scene at different brightness levels and then pick the best exposure after importing the images and evaluating them on a large computer screen.
