Congratulations to Dean Cobin for winning the Abstract Nature assignment!
“My work often takes me in the direction of abstract realism,” says Cobin. “I frequent a particular location for sunrise shots at Lake Tiorati in Harriman State Park, N.Y. Early one morning, I noticed a particular grouping of weeds and had a feeling they would make an interesting abstract. After settling on a composition, I waited patiently to see how the predawn sky would develop. Then, I used the color in the reflection of the water as a backdrop. The low light allowed for a 15 second exposure smoothing out the water, creating a very dreamy feel.
