Winner: "Thirsty Duckling" By Christopher Baker
“Wildlife is abundant at a nearby housing subdivision that surrounds a small lake and wetlands area and I frequently get out early to photograph the activity,” explains Baker. “This mallard duckling was walking with its mother and siblings along the top of a small spillway that separates the lake from the marsh. I love to get these low point-of-view shots with my bird photos, so I positioned myself such that the early-morning sunrise provided a nice, soft backlight. I was fortunate to capture an image of the duckling just as it was taking a drink and had a tiny waterdrop formed at the tip of its beak.”
Nikon D500, Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF lens. Exposure: 1/1000 sec., f/5.6, ISO 280.
