Congratulations to Jennifer Leigh Warner for winning the Fall Wildlife Assignment with her image, “Early Morning Moose.”

Warner shares with us how she captured the winning image: “I photographed this image one morning in late September in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. Like so many photographers, I come to Wyoming each September to photograph the spectacular fall colors with the hopes of seeing the abundance of wildlife that live in the area. I had received a tip from another photographer that a bull moose and a harem of females where spotted in an area not far from where I was.

“I arrived just after sunrise on this cold fall day and spotted the bull standing on the edge of the forest taking a moment for himself. The air was just cold enough to see his breath as he stood there basking in the glow of the morning light through the golden leaves.

“I captured this shot by getting low to the ground, so as not to disturb him, and waited until he exhaled before clicking the shutter. I used a shallow depth of field in order to soften the background and focus in on my subject. When I’m photographing wildlife, I compose my subject and wait for the perfect moment to capture the image I envision. Each animal is an individual, so I attempt to capture their unique personalities while disturbing them as little as possible.”
