As an artist, craftsman and environmentalist, Ansel Adams was one of the most important figures in nature photography. When I was young, I remember seeing Adams’ photograph of “Clearing Winter Storm” photographed from Tunnel View in Yosemite. That photograph marked the first time I saw photography as more than a way to capture family memories. Adams inspired me to be a photographer, an endeavor that has brought me both joy and frustration ever since. The frustration has been from my inability to make a photograph that has the same impact as that image of “Clearing Winter Storm.”
Adams was born 112 years ago today. Happy Birthday and thank you.
