Last Frame: Andy Trowbridge
Featured in the Last Frame section of the October 2015 issue of Outdoor Photographer, Andy Trowbridge captured this shot of a male brown bear that was bear-ly able to keep his eyes open after a long night of feeding and fighting with other bears near Kajaani, Finland, close to the Russian border. “I had chosen to do this trip close to the summer solstice so that I had the most available light possible to photograph the bears within their forest environment,” says Trowbridge. “This period is also at the end of the mating season, so the males are still quite aggressive towards each other and spend a lot of time and energy fighting for territory and dominance. Initially, this bear was rubbing its back against the trunk, scent marking, but then for a brief moment he relaxed, looking obviously quite tired and exhausted.”
