Multiple Focus Options from a Single Shot? Yup.
Focus points can make all the difference in a shot, and Panasonic’s new firmware update brings a new option for choosing a focus area whether you want to adjust a landscape or collect multiple images for focus stacking. Although only available for the Panasonic LUMIX GX8, G7 and FZ300 (at least for now), the one-shutter-press Post Focus mode captures a series of 4K images with a variety of focus points. Switch to playback and you can choose the focus point of your choice and save the image or save multiple images, each with different focus points. The latter is great for focus stacking in your favorite image editing software. You’ll take a hit on resolution, though; images are saved as 8 megapixel files, but it’s an interesting solution to both practical and creative focus challenges. The free firmware update will be available at GMT 1:00 a.m. on November 25, 2015: http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/index.html
