Photo Of The Day By Tony Rowell
Today’s Photo Of The Day is of the recent Perseid meteor shower, taken by Tony Rowell at Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park.
“During my stay at the Tioga Pass Resort near Yosemite, I traveled into the park to photograph the Perseid meteor shower with the new Nikon D5,” says Rowell. “I had hopes of photographing a Perseid meteor reflecting in a pond in the Sierra’s largest sub-alpine meadow, Tuolumne Meadows, at over 8,600 feet. The conditions were perfect with no clouds, little wind and the moon setting early providing dark skies for meteor photography. After spending a few hours in near freezing temps and shooting hundreds of 20-second images, my pre-visualized image became a reality when a bright meteor streaked through the Milky Way near the end of my 20-second exposure.”
Equipment & Settings: Nikon D5, Nikkor ƒ/2.8 24mm lens at 20-sec., ISO 5000, Manfrotto 055CXPro 3 tripod.
