Today’s Photo Of The Day is “White Sands Color” by Carla Dedominicis. Location: White Sands National Monument, New Mexico.
“The white gypsum sand dunes sit in a basin surrounded by mountains over which different weather patterns form,” said Dedominicis. “From any point in the 275 acres, you can find a dune, and watch the weather. Here a virga, or shaft of rain that never hit the ground, casts its best effort at a rainbow during sunset, setting the sands aglow.”
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
