Sometimes the smallest details make a huge impact on a photograph. When a lone duck swam by, Carolyn Derstine saw the potential and she was able to get a shot with all of the elements beautifully composed. Derstine submitted this photo, taken at Spring Cove near Rock Hall in Maryland, to the Autumn Sunsets Assignment which is open through tonight at midnight.
Hoping for a sunset laced with dramatic clouds, Derstine was instead greeted by a perfectly clear sky. As the sun dropped, however, a different photo opportunity presented itself. She explains, “We went to this little cove to watch the sunset however there was not a cloud in the sky. Even so, the lighting was amazing and made for some great silhouettes. I was able to catch a duck and it’s “V” wake in the foreground of this simple sunset image.” Derstine used a Canon EOS 60D for the photo.
I choose the OP Photo Of The Day from the various OP galleries including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and all of the OP Contests. Also, for each issue of the magazine I go through the Assignments galleries and choose a few to be featured in The Best Of Assignments in print and I select a weekly winner to be featured on the OP home page. To get your photos into the running all you have to do is submit them.
