Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Survival” by Clayton Peoples. Location: John Muir Wilderness, California.
“When I think of conservation and Earth Day, my thoughts often go beyond just the beautiful places/landscapes that require preservation—I also think of species that are at risk from climate change,” says Peoples. “One of those species is the cute relative of the rabbit—a pika. As the earth warms, pikas need to move further up in elevation to survive. I encountered this particular pika high in the Sierra Nevada between 10,000 and 11,000 feet. It was scurrying about, gathering food and eating. It was a great sight to behold, but I worry about these animals and their future viability.”
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Galleries and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
