Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Sleepy” By Colin Knight. Location: South Carolina.
“I find wild ducks to be the hardest avian subject to photograph,” said Knight. “It’s not only that they’re extremely wary, the logistics to get in place for a good morning of winter waterfowl shooting can be pretty extensive and just plain uncomfortable. There’s nothing like getting up a couple hours before dawn and kayaking out to the partially submerged blind you brushed in the day before. Then it’s time to hide the kayak from those sharp eyes and sit in water up to your chest hoping your waders still don’t leak. You can see the shallow water here, a ready food supply within easy reach. This little green-winged teal had feed himself well and was continually dozing off. He would tuck his bill into his feathers for minutes at a time. I caught him during one of his rare awake moments.”
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
