Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Sunset Portal” by David Shield. Location: Corona Del Mar, California.
“This arch and rock have been referred to by many names,” says Shield, “however, according to early maps, this was originally identified as Hollow Rock, located on Cameo Shores. However, it’s documented that this ocean feature was first officially named Ladder Rock after Captain Sheffield, manager of the Corona del Mar bathhouse, who had secured a ladder to the shore side of the rock. Even though the preferred composition of this arch is to set up and shoot from the foreground rocks, I explored a little before finding this nearby cave where I chose to shoot from, framing the entire rock arch and isolating details of the sky after a clearing storm.”
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Galleries and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
