‘Rabbit Run’ by Justin Russo

Wild Cottontail rabbits typically live along the perimeter of large open fields or meadows so they can enjoy the grass and vegetation. In today’s Photo of the Day, Justin Russo caught this cottontail mid-run making his way towards the forest near New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada. Cottontails can run up to 18 mph in a zigzag pattern if they perceive a predator. Russo used a Nikon D600 and AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D lens.

Russo submitted ‘Rabbit Run’ to the Catching Air assignment, which is open through tonight, March 18th, at midnight.

Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including AssignmentsYour Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
