‘Eagle Falls Lake Tahoe’ by Mark Bristol
Mark Bristol’s photo of Eagle Falls above Lake Tahoe was sent to the Dry Assignment. The reason I selected this photo is because it shows how drought can sneak up on us. On the face of it, this photo shows a cool mountain pool sitting above the expanse of Lake Tahoe. As a photographer who returns to this spot on a regular basis, Bristol recognized that this is not how this vista would look in a normal year. He writes, “Normally one would not be shooting from this spot as the photographer would be in the torrent.” What appears to be a normal mountain pool is actually the drastically reduced flow of Eagle Falls. Bristol used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a 14-24mm lens to get this photograph.
The Dry Assignment is open for submissions through March 4th.
Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
