Blue Chill by Perri Schelat
When I made the Bitter Cold Assignment last week, I didn’t fully appreciate what the magnitude of the weather system that has covered the US would be. if nothing else, the biting cold and snow has, hopefully, given you some inspiration for this Assignment. Perri Schelat’s photo, Blue Chill, gave me the feeling of bitter cold and it’s today’s Photo of The Day. Schelat took the photo in Yellowstone National Park in January of 2013. “I made this shot in Yellowstone in January,” Schelat writes. “Yellowstone is about the coldest place in the lower 48 in winter. This day was no different. I found these tress at Norris Geyser Basin. The steam from a nearby thermal pool would steam the trees and then they’d freeze over with ice. A pretty straight forward simple shot. Just needed to be careful not to breath on the view finder or LCD. It was about 10 degrees on this day.”
Schelat used a Nikon D3 DSLR, Nikon 17-35mm lens, Nikon MC-30 shutter release, Kirk BH1 Ballhead and a Gitzo tripod.
The Bitter Cold Assignment is open through tomorrow night (December 10) at midnight.
I choose the OP Photo Of The Day from the various OP galleries including Assignments, Your Favorite Places and all of the OP Contests. Also, for each issue of the magazine I go through the Assignments galleries and choose a few to be featured in The Best Of Assignments in print and I select a weekly winner to be featured on the OP home page. To get your photos into the running all you have to do is submit them.
