Rainbows

Welcome back to Off the Beaten Path, dedicated to far away places, once-in-a-lifetime moments, and those rare flashes of inspired thinking. Today I’d like to talk about rainbows. The ancient Greeks considered a rainbow to be a path linking the heavens and earth. Today, scientists consider a rainbow to be a meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the atmosphere. Take your pick, but whatever they are, they make perfect nature photography subjects.

I’ve written a tutorial on my website about How to Photograph Rainbows. It contains helpful tips concerning not only the conditions most conducive to rainbow formation, but also how to make the best photos when you are lucky enough to see one of these magnificent arcs of light. I’ve got a few other tutorials on the site that you might find helpful, so please stop by and take a look!
