The Towers of Silence
These amazing geologic anomalies are located in the heart of the Grand Staircase/Escalante National monument of Southern Utah. Reaching them requires a 8 mile round trip hike up Wahweap Wash from the town of Big Water. The hike is flat but very tiresome due to the fact that you are slogging through deep sand for much of the walk. This image was captured at first light when the hoodoos are bathed in early morning directional light. By the middle of the day, the hoodoos are in deep shade as the sun moves behind the tall cliffs that shelter these stone formations.
