Winner: "Alien Land" By Garry Everett
“A decision to spend a night in Death Valley in mid-June was not one of the wisest choices I have ever made, followed by another to leave the air-conditioned saloon to shoot sunset at Zabriskie Point, when the daytime temperature had reached 128 deg. After a non-eventful sunset with relatively clear skies, I am not sure why I even stuck around in the balmy 119 deg heat, but as the day faded onto the twilight hours the scene changed dramatically. There was a very thin layer of high clouds moving through that gradually changed, in the waning light, to a vivid pink/purple hue, this transformed the scene into an alien like landscape.”
