As part of a WildEye photo tour to Svalbard we were of course looking for polar bears, so we explored a small island on foot looking for signs. Upon not finding anything, we returned to our zodiac and just as we were pulling away this bear awoke and started walking along the ridgeline just yards from the shoreline. In fact, at one point she charged down to the water to get a closer look (and smell) at us. But it was the walk along the ridgeline with the dramatic and contrast-rich skies behind her that caught my eye so I got low in the boat and shot away, waiting for a good profile with the paw up.
