Winner: "Trunk Shadows" By Nancy Reynolds
"I was fortunate to be invited to a women’s only cross-country ski trip near Butte, Montana," explains Reynolds. "Since my XC skiing skills are limited, I chose to leave the DSLR at home and brought my point-and-shoot instead. Towards the end of the day, I noticed the parallel lines that the trees made: the trunks themselves as well as their shadows, which lead my eye off at an angle. Some creature had walked through the snow and then fresh snow had fallen over their prints, leaving a soft trail in its wake. It was a soothing scene at the end of a challenging day."
