Taking an image, freezing a moment reveals how rich reality truly is.
With camera in hand, the essence of this statement comes to life. Since 1994, Andy Long has been leading photo workshops to make this statement come true for everyone venturing out with First Light Photo Workshops.
Being able to find that special image at most every location, Andy’s keen photographic eye will inspire and guide you to see the world differently and know when the right time comes to triggering the shutter after attending a trip. This is exemplified by a response Andy loves to give when asked what equipment he uses with the answer being “My eyes.”
Learning to see photographically is a lot different than seeing the world go by and this process is something stressed on every First Light Photo Workshops trip. Working to create a photograph is emphasized over taking pictures.
Whether your passion is wildlife, nature or landscape photography, First Light Photo Workshops offers instructional photo workshops to many top spots in the United States and other countries including the Falkland Islands, Iceland and France with new destinations added frequently. From Alaska to Florida and many points in between, each workshop has its own beauty and special appeal.
Hands-on help in the field is the main emphasis with classroom programs adding to the learning experience. With First Light Photo Workshops taking care of all ground transportation, lodging and meals your only concern is with enjoying the wonderful destination and taking great photographs on whichever trip you choose to attend.
No matter what skill level you are, small group sizes of six people, with some trips only having a max of four, allows for as much in-the-field hands-on help as each participant wants. Even experienced photographers have walked away having learned something on a First Light workshop.
While Andy’s eye in the field is his strength, there are some trips where some very different techniques are introduced to open your eyes and mind to a new photographic experience. After all, workshops should be a learning experience and that is what Andy enjoys doing most, teaching people about the variety of subjects and how to photograph them.
This is exemplified by the aim of First Light Photo Workshops being to help you capture great images in a relaxed atmosphere and to teach material that will help you take better photos the next time you go into the field no matter where that is or what subject you are shooting.
