After crossing the Dallas Divide on Colorado Highway 62 turn left on Last Dollar Road. As you ascend the road, Leopard Creek with its numerous beaver ponds is to your left. If you happen to be there at just the right time you will see these autumn reds on the hillside above the creek. Problem is picking the right time as you never know which week in late September or early October will be the best.
Along Last Dollar Road these "red aspen" stand among their cousins the more common yellow aspen on a hillside above Leopard Creek. Their blaze of glory is short-lived but wow is it magnificent!
