This crack in the rock overlooks the White Rim Trail that circles the Island in the Sky in Canyonlands National Park. Several friends were backpacking with me and joked around about the solitary crack that I was photographing. They didn't laugh after they saw the result! It was from the help of a Singh-Ray 3-stop Reverse Graduated Neutral Density filter and of course a tripod. Upon showing it to some other friends, one woman who has had a particularly rough life stared at it for awhile and said, "This is a road map of my life." A narrow, solid path leading to a cliff overhang with desert and pitfalls below. In the end, she thought was a shining, beautiful sun. I had no choice but to name the image "The Road Map."
