Mount Rainier National Park's immense backcountry provides incredible opportunity for adventure, not to mention wilderness landscape photography. This sunset image of Mount Rainier was taken from Knapsack Pass. You can access the pass in a couple of ways. The shortest route begins at Mowich Lake, from behind the ranger's cabin there. A rough trail begins at the cabin, winds through the forested slopes above the lake's eastern shore, and eventually ascends a narrow cirque to the pass. From there, relatively easy scrambles give access to Faye Peak, Hessong Rock, Mother Mountain, Spray Park, and the Carbon River valley.
