This is the landscape image I never expected to take. I was in Vegas with family last summer, and happened to glance outside our hotel window to see an impressive thunderstorm over the mountains just south of the city. I noticed occasional flashes of lightning, and on a whim quickly set up my camera with a long lens. I snapped away for about 20 minutes, having no idea if I captured anything worthwhile. It was only when I returned home and uploaded my images from the trip that I saw (in my very first exposure of the storm) a heart-shaped lightning bolt. Because of the near impossibility of the shot, and because of its inherent whimsy, it remains one of my favorite photographs I've ever taken.
