Drive US 16/385 about 7 miles north of Custer, South Dokata. This site is also near Mount Rushmore.
I used Velvia 50 film and set the exposure at 1/250 @ F/8.5 and used a small amount of fill-flash (rear-curtain sync) to add some "pop" to the photograph. I stopped down to F/8.5 to add some detail of the emerging sculpture in the background. I liked the way that the dancer's "baton" points to Crazy Horse. To me, this symbolizes the continuation of the Lokata way of life.
The Crazy Horse Momument is a private site which is owned and operated by the Korczak family. This massive project of creating a sculpture of Crazy Horse riding his horse from the side of a mountain will take many decades to complete. This Lakota boy is participating in a ceremonial dance at the visitors center.
