Route 7 west from Washington D.C through Loudoun County (45 minutes) 2 miles past Bluemont, Virginia to a left on Blueridge Mountain Road, take the Appalachian Trail on foot to the location.
This image was captured at "Bear's Den" an outcropping of rocks west of Bluemont Virginia. The site is believed to be a Native American solstice site dating back 12,000 years, the rocks were a key point during the Civil War & popular tourist destination in the 1800's and Early 1900's. The outcropping is part of the Appalachian Trail and holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up on them as I did. This image captured on the Autumnal Equinox of 2012. Won Curator's Choice in Mountains Photography Contest on November, 2012
