Description

A recent trip to the Northern California Redwoods was both inspiring and humbling. I visited Damnation Creek Trail Head on my first morning there in hopes of some fog, good light and Rhodedendrons. Alas, my hopes on that day were dashed as far as the fog and light goes. A couple of other photographers also seemed more than disappointed. But, all in all, how can the beauty of the Redwoods ever really disappoint? I was camping in Jeddadiah Smith State Park just for one night and had planned to pack up the next morning and drive 6 hours home. When I woke up I decided to give Damnation Creek one more visit. As I approached the coastline I could see and smell the cool fog and I found myself grinning from ear to ear. When I got to the trailhead, however, there was no fog to be seen. I packed my gear anyhow and hiked out a ways snapped a few momento shots and began to hike back to the car. Suddenly, a bank of fog rolled in. I scrambled to get my camera and tripod and was lucky enough to capture 5 or 6 shots before the fog moved out. Lucky. Yes.
