The Owens Valley, California lies in the rain shadow of the high Sierra Nevada Mountains. Plants and wildlife have adapted to this harsh land of little rain, cold winters and hot summers.
Early winter stormy skies gave us soft diffused light for most of the day - letting us explore and shoot when the cameras would normally be in the bag. Yellows and oranges seem to really pop and glow under overcast skies. I wanted a long depth of field and slow shutter speed to give some motion to the clouds. 1/5th sec, f/20, ISO 50, 17mm on a 16-35mm zoom, with a Hoya polarizer and Singh-Ray 2 stop hard Graduated ND filter.
