Red Carpet In Tombstone Yukon

"Fall in the Yukon" - Certainly different than the brilliant reds and yellows of our hardwoods but uniquely beautiful. The blueberry (small berries but very tasty and cranberry bushes) were glowing red while the abundant Cladonia lichen adds a grayish white floor. There are over 20,000 lichen species in the Arctic and they supply a lot of carbohydrate and energy to the migrating caribou. Walking through the lichen was like walking on a foam mattress.
