I visited Colorado Springs to attend a wedding on January 4, 2014 and it was a blizzard all day long! I was hoping to visit Garden of the Gods before I left, and the morning of January 5 was my last opportunity. Waking up at 4am, I peeked outside, saw stars, and took advantage. I was the only one in the park at 5am. When I reached the parking lot, the thermometer said NEGATIVE SIX DEGREES! Wow. Do I dare go outside? I donned everything I had, stuffed hand warmers into my shoes, and stepped out. I wanted to capture some stars before they faded in the twilight, but I needed something of contrast. I found this great looking tree nearby and decided to test it out. My camera squeaked when I turned it on (it was that cold)! The light atop Pikes Peak shining through the clouds is barely visible in the background. I survived the sub zero temperatures, had a great shoot that morning throughout the park, and glad I had made the effort!
