On February 2, 2014 the sun appeared after several gray days of heavy snows and I headed for North Cheyenne Canyon on the southwest side of Colorado springs. My goal was to capture images in this high-walled and forested canyon of where the sun could penetrate and create contrast in the scene. North Cheyenne Creek proved to be one of the better places where this occurred. The creek's embankment was steep in this area and the snow was deep and slippery. Bracing myself I shot this photograph hand held trying not to slide into the icy water and become part of the landscape!
