Description

The Mississippi River is a major flyway for the bald eagle migration in the winter months. Long stretches of extreme cold in the northern reaches of the drainage can almost freeze the river solid. The exceptions to this are the areas downstream of the river's lock and dams where the current keeps small sections of the river open. Bald eagles flock to these areas in search of food, sometimes in great numbers. One such place this happens is near lock & dam 18 near Burlington, Iowa. That is where I captured this eagle snagging a meal.
