This image was taken near the Virgin River Gorge Recreation Area in Arizona. I used my Canon EOS Rebel t4i with the EF-S18-135MM f/3.5 lens with a focal length of 50mm, shutter at 1/200, and f-stop at f/10. A few weeks ago I was in St. George, Utah, where my husband was attending a conference, and then we were heading to Mesquite, Nevada to see Valley of Fire State Park. To get between the two, you must travel through the Virgin River Gorge located in the northwest corner of Arizona. As we were driving, I saw the beautiful Joshua trees out my window and commented to my husband that I'd like to photograph them some day. We happened to be approaching one of only a couple freeway exits in the area and since the opportunity presented itself, we pulled over for a quick detour. I climbed up a steep hill so I could view the Joshua trees with the plateau in the background. This was not the destination of our trip, but it was worth while to take this detour and see how gorgeous the desert can be!
