From Washington Hwy 20 (West off of I-5), turn south on Best Road. This particular field is no longer accessible to the public, but there are plenty of similar fields for viewing. The current season has almost ended, but every April the opportunity arises again.
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Northwest Washington attracts thousands of tourists and photographers each year. But the best time to photograph the fields is definitely sunrise and sunset. I got up early and drove to this field one morning in time for sunrise. This particular field was planted against a row of trees, and when the sun was shining through the trees, the combination of golden light streaming through the morning mist, along with the dappled lighting on the fields, made for a very interesting composition that was well worth it.
