I went to the Grand Canyon in February 2014 hoping for snow, and instead I got record high temps. The conditions were terrible for photography: clear blue skies or slightly overcast. I was contemplating going home early but decided to give sunset one more shot. I went to Grandview Point since there had been some color in the east, but I wasn't expecting much. About 15 minutes after sunset the sky exploded into the most amazing pink sunset I have ever seen, which reflected off the canyon peaks as well. Several times I stopped shooting just to look around at the amazing light all around me. But my color shots, even though I didn't do anything to them except adjust the temperature, looked unreal. You just had to be there to believe it. Since there was so much contrast and texture I converted it to a black and white image, which seemed to work better. I walked away from this scene feeling lucky to have experienced it, and totally motivated to keep chasing the light.
