Garden of the Gods was recently named the #1 city park in the United States. It is a photographer's paradise and I particularly like it in the fall and winter when the tourist crowds are less dense. The Garden presents many views of Pikes Peak to the west. The late afternoon and sunset times create beautiful but challenging light with which to work when shooting toward the west. In this image I positioned the camera so as to block the sun with the pine trees on the left to reduce lens flare and yet let the sun backlight/sidelight the cacti and foliage in the lower center of the photograph. Unfortunately, I had forgotten my tripod and shot this handheld but was satisfied with the results.
