The end of my brother and I's first backpacking trip to Shenandoah NP. Our last day I had planned a thoroughly grueling 8-9 mile ascent of roughly 2,000 feet from Shenandoah's hollows up to the Appalachian Trail and on to the summit of Hawksbill Mt. It kicked my beginner backpackers ass! In pain I can't describe, dehydrating and exhausted, I was in near tears when we reached camp. At dawn the next morning on the summit, Mother Nature made it all worth while! "Appreciation" gained.
