From Fairfield follow the signs for the park East out of town and continue on to FM Road 3285. The park is at the end of this road.
I have a number of photos I'm happy with from this location. This particular shot was taken on my first trip to the park back in the late 1990s. The contrast between the lush vegetation and the and the cedar tree skeletons intrigued me. My old f8 500mm mirror lens gave the scene that soft almost dreamy quality that I sometimes associated with that lens.
Fairfield Lake State Park covers 1460 acres in Freestone County, Texas. This is not a wilderness area yet I recently spent a day hiking at this location and left with more trails to explore on another trip. The park lies in what is considered the Prairies and Lakes Region of the State. There are several campgrounds and even some primitive sites several miles out for backpackers.
